Why Insurance Rates for Young Drivers is High

Insurance for Young AdultsSo there’s a new driver in the house and the next thing on anyone’s mind is, “Why is every insurance quote so high for my child?” The main reason; about 48% of accidents that occur are by drivers between the ages of 16 and 25 which brings an awareness to the insurance companies that young drivers are a large liability. There are a few other reasons that insurance companies have as well.

Drivers that are under the age of 25 are typically less experienced and are more likely to be distracted when they are on the road. Inexperience, coupled with the probability that young drivers may not have any credit compiled yet makes insurance companies uncomfortable. Insurance quotes are typically based on good credit history and if there is no credit history to gather they will charge the same way they would someone that has poor credit history.

There are ways to bring the cost of insurance for a young driver down over time as they show a clean driving history and even begin to build their credit. There are also ways to find cheaper insurance for a young driver as long as you are willing to take the time to look and sift through the possibilities. New drivers make up 12% of the driving population and each one finds insurance one way or another.

Ocean City Floodplain Maps likely to Increase Insurance Rates

insurance

Many residents of Ocean City Maryland are likely to be very unhappy in the near future. The director of Developmental Review and Permits announced recently that the Flood Insurance Rate Maps may cause a price hike in insurance rates. The new maps may include some areas otherwise not included.

Many of the maps currently being used to judge flood prone areas can be dated back to the early 80’s. FEMA has provided an estimated timeline and unlike other parts of the nation, the maps will not be shown until April 2013. After they are released there is likely to be an appeal process which will push the effective date out another year or so.

While the effects of the new FEMA flood maps may not be seen in Ocean City Maryland for a couple of years, other parts of the country are currently dealing with them. Many parts of Louisiana have been remapped and considered flood prone. These residents will likely see a high cost in flood insurance.

California: Health Insurance for Kids with Health Problems

Insurance for Kids

One large part of the health care reform was providing affordable health care to patients with pre-existing conditions. The state California took this part of reform even further when it applies to children with pre-existing conditions. However if parents do not act quickly, the chance will likely pass them by.

California put legislation in place that not only requires insurance companies to cover children with chronic health problems, but also requires insurance companies to charge reasonable rates. Reasonable rates are considered to be no higher than double the amount charged for a healthy child.

Some of the common illnesses seen in children that cause a hike in insurance are diabetes and asthma. Parents only have until the first of March to receive the benefits of this deal for their children. This will mark the end of the open enrollment period and parents would then need to wait until the child’s next birthday.
